Clare Petal Persad is a 36-year old, DIVA as she is often called or Queen by most. Raised in New York City, with the attitude of a “go-getter”, she often referred to her city as a “concrete jungle” which she noted with emphasis she had to be a lion in, not a lioness. Having that mentality as a young child, Clare knew there were some things in life she would have to work extra hard for.
Born of Caribbean descent she witnessed her mother and father being very traditional individuals who were set in their ways. The hardships with living in a country that they were not born into was unique to witness, as it seemed flawless for her parents who settled in the city called Queens where a niche of Caribbean people who would be referred to as the “coolie town folks” or the “Indian-vile” resided. Her childhood was non- traditional, she was handed off to some family friends at the age of fifteen and grew up in the city where her dreams seemed to big to “stay in a box”. She was afforded all the necessary things to survive in a “concrete jungle” she says, except her education would be the only key to get out of the concrete that she was bred into. Her free spirited, adventurous soul needed to soar, but she kept her focus on school, because she knew that without an education, she would not be able to experience financial freedom and independence.
Toughness can be misconstrued with strength sometimes, but to be tough and to be strong always meant something entirely different to Clare. She was brave and confident as a young child her imaginative mind was always seeking to learn more, and to be productive was always what made her satisfied with herself. Sacrifice and discipline were principles that she learned at a very young age, which made her pathway through her education very successful. She earned her BS in Psychology at Alfred University and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at Montclair State University in 2005. While her peers were enjoying summer vacations, she was dedicating her time to her studies with the goal of graduating early and moving on to her doctorate program. Unfortunately, Clare was not able to afford her graduate school cost for tuition and she resorted to joining the United States Navy as a Supply Corps Officer in 2006, where she earned her master’s degree in Human Behavior, while on active duty.
In 2010, she decided to explore her options in the small business world, where she and a partner owned an ice cream shop called Mr. Scoops. The idea of bringing a traditional home-made ice cream to the west coast from the Blue Bell ice cream productions, seemed to be a very lucrative entrepreneurial move to make at the time. During her career on active duty as a Supply Corps Officer, she meticulously accomplished setting up and running Mr. Scoops with franchises that were meant to be expanded as the business grew. Unfortunately, Clare quickly learned the rules of the road with business and partnerships. She learned how quickly greed could hinder the bonds of a friendship, where she was left to cut her losses with this partner and move on to her own business ventures.
Lieutenant Clare Petal Persad retired from the US Navy Oct 28th due to a combat related injury. Her traumatic experience kept her in and out of the hospital for approximately two years. Her big dreams of becoming a doctor in psychology felt as though it was over, and her life as she knew it became dull and miserable. Pain and medications were her lifestyle, and she was getting sick of being in and out of the doctors’ offices. Each pharmaceutical medication had a side effect which was unbearable for Clare, so she decided one day to try something different.
She opted out of the pharmaceutical, western medicinal approach, turned to Chinese medicine and holistic approaches. This proved to be her “saving grace” and her second chance at living which sparked her journey to researching alternative medicine to share with the world.
Her story is one of the many stories that veterans and civilians can relate to. Her will to live a strong and healthier life led to her life-long passion to research and develop, alternative, holistic medicine. Clare decided that her pain management and other ailments that plagues the lives of veterans, and civilians, especially in stressful work environments needed to be addressed without the pharmaceutical option.
She was bed ridden and the medications made her more ill to her knowledge while under heavy, sedative drugs meant for patients with severe mental health issues. Whereas, her ailments were not nearly as severe, and she did not need to be in a system that was making her even more sick. The natural herbs of cannabis along with the brewing of other medicine in herbal form were the core factors involved in her newfound treatments and road to recovery. Since Clare had never experimented with the Cannabis plant prior to her holistic treatment in 2015, she decided to learn everything there was to learn about the plant, with the intentions of continuing effective treatment for herself, also to share with others.
In June of 2015 she made a break-through in her research with herbal medicines and she decided to propose a cannabis project for her capstone project at National University. During this time the law was not forbidding any sort of legal marijuana studies or projects and it was very difficult for her to accomplish the research needed. Despite the difficulties she was able to team up with some botanists with access to labs where her experiments were legally accepted. Two years later she earned her MBA with a global concentration, and her Cannabis Capstone project, which was to create a business that extracts the purest form of CBD from the marijuana plant to create alternate medicines as an option to veterans and the civilians alike who suffer from ailments such as PTSD, Anxiety, ADHD, Depression, and other mental health conditions. Her thesis received high honors from the School of Business at National University June of 2017.
It November of 2018 she developed some of the most effective forms of CBD products which received accolades from her local patients and have been on high demand. Her dreams became reality when she decided to share her experiences with others in hopes of providing alternate options that are all natural and effective, without side effects. Her sole purpose of producing the CBD products herself is to ensure the purity is preserved of the herbs used to manufacture any of the products sold under her line CLAREBUDZ
